Interactive robotic swarm
A swarm of small, sound- and light-generating robots responds to visitors’ hand movements, becoming an artificial extension of the human body. Control begins to shift as the swarm develops its own dynamics. The resulting sense of autonomy and intimacy creates a tangible emotional and physical experience of algorithmic behaviour.
Interconnected is a project by Katrin Hochschuh and Adam Donovan which had originally been developed as a performance and been adapted as an interactive installation for the exhibition ‘Artificial Creativity’ at Aargauer Kunsthaus.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of New Arts Ruhr and originally had been developed in collaboration with the Theater Dortmund, the Academy for Theatre and Digitality and the Kulturforum Witten. Special thanks to Richard Unger from Small Robots who worked with us from the ground up to craft this species of robots we affectionately called brushless Zooids.
